Learning Korean, from self-study to university qualification

Starting independently, structuring the learning process, practising and progressing through to university assessment.

The story

I began learning Korean independently in 2020 through videos, books, applications and my own grammar and vocabulary tables. I then joined small-group lessons and achieved B1- in the Pipplet Flex assessment in 2022.

I continued with the University Diploma in Korean Language and Culture at Bordeaux Montaigne University, studying written and spoken Korean as well as culture and history. I completed the second year with an average of 16.43/20 and High Honours.

During two trips to South Korea, the language became practical: reading signs and menus, navigating, ordering and understanding cultural nuances that translation does not always capture.

What I take from it

Developing curiosity into a real skill through a clear method, consistent practice and tangible evidence of progress.
